Graduate of Université de Montréal with a specialized diploma in nephrology, Marie-Josée Hébert received postdoctoral at the Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital training. She is a professor in the Faculty of Medicine and a nephrologist-transplant physician and researcher who holds the Shire Chair in Renal Transplantation and Regeneration. Dr. Hébert is co-director of the Canadian National Transplant Research Program. As a researcher, she has founded and led major interdisciplinary and cross-sector research groups. Her work has led to the discovery of new mechanisms involved in organ transplant rejection. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to kidney disease research, Dr. Hébert was awarded the Dr. John B. Dossetor Award and the Kidney Foundation of Canada Medal for Research Excellence. In 2017, Montreal daily La Presse named her scientist of the year.
Vice-Rector of Research, Discovery, Creation and Innovation of Université de Montréal since 2015, she has played a key role in developing major interdisciplinary research and knowledge mobilization initiatives such as IVADO - Institute for Data Valorization, MILA – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, the Digital Health Consortium and the Montréal Declaration for a Responsible Development of Artificial Intelligence.”
